December 26, 2004, the world was in immense shock of the horrible thing that struck South Asia. Killer waves just came unexpectedly crushing and rumbling everything that was in its way. People ran, climbed, cried, and quite a number of them died. Not many were very lucky to climb tress, hold on to a post, or reach higher grounds and survived...

Hanging Around in Thailand

Our trip to Thailand had been long awaited, originally planned for the winter of 94/95. My wife Karin had bought the maps and books and even packed; we were off. The balloon was ready at Thunder and Colt with a heavy duty basket tailor made for hard use overseas. And then they went bust. The delay meant that we missed the relatively short window available for flying in Thailand. So it was rainy old England for most of the winter and a rethink of the plan for us. I had been asked to go out there by Jon Nunns having previously worked for him in South Africa flying passenger ride balloons.Jon's interest in Thailand comes from several commercial tours he's probably had the most experience of flying in...

I'm a huge fan of reality shows. The most recent one I've been following is Rockstar INXS - the show which follows the super 80's Australian band, INXS, and their search for a new lead singer. If you haven't seen it, it's a great show, the music and performances are incredible (blows American Idol or any Idol show out of the water). The other great thing about this show is that the voting (everyone gets to vote for their favourite singer) let's people all over the world vote for their favourite singer where most other shows restrict interactions to American audiences only.Of course, after each show is over, the music is available to download from the MSN music site. So, after hearing some great music...

In the last 2 weeks, there have been a number of reports, articles and interviews in the Asian Media about the creation of Asian currency unit (ACU), a single Asian currency. By going through these articles, I could understand one thing that ACU will not take place anytime soon, not even in the next 5 years- the earliest time I see is 2015. ASEAN+3 group of countries are behind the idea of ACU and soon these countries are going to start a research project about ACU.Well, I am not in favor of calling it as 'Asian Currency Unit' as it is mainly limited to some East Asian countries and all the countries of South Asia, Central Asia, Middle East and West Asia are left out in it. However, the same goes...

I quickly learned that with all the trips I take to Asia and Europe having a phone with GSM was critical. GSM means Global System for Mobile Communications and is a digital format used widely in Europe and Asia. In the U.S. only T-Mobile and some AT& T and Cingular phones use GSM. It keeps calls separate by assigning a slice of time to each carrier. What is GPRS? General packet radio service. What is CDMA? It appears Iran and its President have been in the news for all the wrong reasons, such as promising to; Blow Israel off the Map and sponsoring international terrorist organizations such as but not limited too; Hamas and Hezbollah.Iran has also been in the news for buying Chinese ICBM missiles which are 35-feet long and capable of carrying nuclear warheads over 1200 miles meaning most countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. But that is not all, as the most serious reason they have been in the news lately is because they are developing nuclear weapons, as they wish to build an...

Egypt is one of the most fascinating destinations on the world tourist map. This extra ordinary country is today the favourite vacation spot for many, just like it was in the days of the early Greeks and Romans. The thoroughly cultured Greeks, in particular, were fascinated by this civilization that predated theirs by at least 2000 years. The biggest draw continues to be the amazing abundance of historical treasures- temples, pyramids and museums –contained in this one country. But the destination offers more than just the wonders of antiquity. Your visit to Egypt can be rounded off by a cruise down the Nile and a beach vacation at the top notch Red Sea and Sinai resorts. The unification of the...

The human evolution timeline is found recorded in Bible quotes (Book of Genesis). Adam's rib symbolizes the chromosome and is the key to the man ape evolution. In discussing evolution vs creation, many convergences like this one are found.Someone who holds to the theory of evolution and denies creationism might ask why such an important matter as the creation of human beings would be in a symbolic message rather than in explicit language. And, after all, the Holy Scriptures don`t talk about chromosomes. That is a valid question, which shall be pursued below. First off, the main interest is to see the points of confluence between evolution and creation regarding the appearance of the human being...

At about the same time I started to think about building my own website, I considered my personal strengths and resources. It occurred to me that it might be a good idea to make a list of all the things I have in my life, as well as the things I have learned and skills I can use. This could help me come up with new directions for my personal development. After I've started writing these things down, I decided to call it "Power Maps" as they outline my sources of power, and could also show me ways to turn my strengths into more powerful actions. In this brief article I will try to demonstrate how I do this, hoping you can do the same. I use my own Power Map as an example, so you also get a chance to...

Large parts of the world today suffer from a severe liquidity crisis. The famed globalization of the capital markets seems to confine itself, ever more, to the richer parts, the more liquid exchanges, the more affluent geopolitical neighbourhoods. The fad of "emerging economies" has all but died out. Try telling the Macedonians about global capital markets: last year, the whole world invested 8 million USD in their poor country. Breadwinners earn 300 DM a month on average. Officially, in excess of one third of the workforce is unemployed. One of the recent trends in home decorating is the influence of the Far East. With its simplicity and attention to space, this lends itself well to our hectic Western lifestyle. A lot of the elements of Asian home decorating can be trace back to two schools of thought, one originating from China and the other from Japan.Feng Shui is a Chinese concept of space and object placement. Feng Shui associates the home with both health and prosperity. There are various rooms in which Feng Shui is more prevalent. The kitchen is one of them. Couple this perspective with the role of the kitchen as "the heart of the home," and you can see that any feng shui in this room can have a significant impact on your...

Around 355 BC Plato described an ancient, exotic island kingdom catastrophically buried beneath the sea when its once-virtuous people angered the gods with their indulgence in sin and corruption. The city of Atlantis was a marvel of architecture and engineering. The city was composed of a series of concentric walls and canals about 9000 years before the time of Plato. When the people of Atlantis became corrupt and greedy, the gods decided to destroy them. A violent earthquake shook the land, giant waves rolled over the shores, and the island sank into the sea, never to be seen again. In Plato's book, Timaeus, a character named Kritias describes that an account of Atlantis has been in his family for...
